Swing Painting

This weekend I saw a neat idea that someone else had shared that someone else had shared. I’m so happy so many mamas are so creative with their ideas on how to keep the littles entertained. With three 5 and under I need all the help coming up with ways to keep them engaged. This activity included cardboard, paint and a swing set. Do you know where this is going? Maybe.

  1. Collect supplies- Paint , Cardboard, Paintbrush ( or you could be extra wild and use toes and fingers!) and swingset
  2. Lay cardboard under swing with the side up that you want painted
  3. Squirt paint onto cardboard -OR – if youre refined like my 5 year old use a paint pallete and add a small amount to each well
  4. Have child/toddler lay stomach down on the swing with paintbrush in a hand- or both hands!
  5. swing them back and forth as they create beautiful proccess art !

Process art is when you have your child focus on the creative process and exploration over the final product. You encourage children to engage with the materials and techniques freely without expecting a certain outcome. What’s all that mean? Let them be messy. Let them create. Let them add the dirt. This isn’t going to be one that we send to grandma or hang on the fridge, and that is okay. This is my favorite type of art. Using pieces that we already have in our recycling bin. This could easily be adapted with markers, crayons, or whatever you have on hand.
